Should Nate Schierholtz start in right field or should someone else?

Hello SF Giants fans,

I have a question for all you SF Giants fans? Should Nate Schierholtz start in right field? He’s a little bit young but he is a good hitter. He averaged good in pinch hitters. Or, should the Giants try to sign Jermaine Dye and played him in right field? Dye would bring home runs, RBI’s, and a lot more. He has experience but Schierholtz is getting better and better and better. Or, how about John Bowker? He captured the Triple A batting title in 2009 but he didn’t produce much in the majors. How about Andres Torres? He’s fast, can steal, and can hit for average. Maybe Eugenio Velez? Wow, I am going crazy. Who should start in right field for the San Francisco Giants? It might be these people or someone else in mind? Please leave your comments here and tell me who you chose and why you chose that person. Thank you very much.

Giants officially sign Mota, Wellemeyer

Hello SF Giants fans,

The Giants have officially signed pitchers Guillermo Mota and Todd Wellemeyer to minor league contracts with an invitation to Spring Training on Sunday. The Giants, though, didn’t sign Hisanori Takahashi, who went to the Mets. We’ve already talked about Mota and a little bit about Wellemeyer. Does Todd Wellemeyer have a shot to become the Giants No. 5 starter? Sure he does. He has already proved that he is good such as in 2008 he had a 13-9 record but in 2009, he had an injury that lead him to a 7-10 the whole year. The only reason why the Giants signed Wellemeyer was because he had a bad year, and the Cardinals didn’t want him so they let him go. Wellemeyer has a chance because Madison Bumgarner is good, but not ready. He is still young, and doesn’t have much experience. He would be good in the bullpen. where he posted great numbers. Wellemeyer is the best pitcher on the team that has starting experience. He was a starting pitcher for the Cardinals. If Wellemyer doesn’t become the No. 5 starter, then he will be on the relief staff. He is good enough to compete on a good team and is young enough but still has experience. I guarantee you that Wellemeyer will at least….. at least make the team.

Giants involved in signings of Todd Wellemeyer and Hisanor….

Hello SF Giants fans,

The Giants are in some tough conversations. The Giants are interested in signing Todd Wellemeyer and Hisanori Takahashi. Wellemeyer is a starting pitcher/reliever and played for the Cardinals this season. He had a rough season, because of an injury. Wellemeyer had played for the Chicago Cubs, then went to the Florida Marlins, Kansas City Royals, and then the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2008, he had a 13-9 record but in 2009 he had an injury so he wasn’t that good. The reason why the Giants are interested in him was because the Giants need a No. 5 starter. So far, they’ve got Lincecum, Zito, Cain, and Sanchez. Right now, it belongs to Madison Bumgarner, but he is still young and is much better as a relief pitcher for the Giants. If Wellemeyer wasn’t good, then the Giants wouldn’t try to sign him. He would be a good fit for the Giants. There were other clubs such as  Arizona, Colorado, Philadelphia and the New York Mets were reportedly  interested in Wellemeyer.

Meanwhile, there’s Hisanori Takahashi. He’s a Japanese pitcher that is a top prospect. Many teams are trying to sign him, including the Giants. It wouldn’t be surprising if Takahashi signed elsewhere, reportedly interested with the Dodgers and the Mets.

Accquisition: Guillermo Mota

Hello SF Giants fans,

Today we will talk about a pitcher named Guillermo Mota. He signed with the Giants not too long ago and is a non-roster invitee. Mota was signed because the Giants needed a better bullpen and some depth in their bullpen. The Giants have Affeldt, who is reliable, Wilson, Runzler, Bumgarner, and a whole lot more. If you look at Mota’s numbers in 2009, they were pretty good. He had a 3.44 ERA, 61 games pitched. For reference, visit http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=150407 for Guillermo Mota’s baseball career. But, Mota has also been known for trouble. IN 2009, he fought in a brawl with Prince Fielder and has many more temper issues. I’m not saying that he has anger management problems, but you know what I mean. He is a good resource for the Giants and can help them a lot because he has good numbers, and experience.

Possibility of making club: Yes. Mota has a good chance for succeeding for Bob Howry. He has good numbers and everything. I guarantee that Mota will make the Giants roster.

Accquisition: Byung-Hyun Kim and Horacio Ramirez

Hello SF Giants fans,

Today I want to talk about two pitchers. They are Byung-Hyun Kim and Horacio Ramirez. First, let’s talk about Kim.

Byung-Hyun Kim: Byung-Hyun Kim is a reliever/closer. He is a South Korean. Kim is a nine year veteran with a lot of experience. First signed by Arizona, he took over as closer for Matt Mantei and posted brilliant numbers. In 2002, he made the All- Star team. soon, in the 2003 season, he was traded to Boston and played there. In 2005, he was trade to the Colorado Rockies. From there, he started to decline. He was a nomad and often was released or traded. As a matter of fact, he gave up # 715 homerun to Barry Bonds. In 2007, he played his last game and retired. Now coming out of retirement, he has signed with the giants on a minor league contract, without and invitation to Spring Training. Kim provides some depth and relief. Hopefully, he can play well in the minors and play in the majors, if he does good.

Possibility of making team: Can’t because he doesn’t have and invitation to Spring Training. If there is a pitcher injury, he can fill in that role along with Osiros Matos, Santiago Casilla, and maybe Horacio Ramriez.

Horacio Ramirez: Horacio is a reliever/starting pitcher. He is best remembered for pitching with the Braves having a 12-9 record in 2003 and 11-9 record in 2005. After that, he has been thriving for a spot and isn’t that good anymore.

Possibility of making team: Can’t because he doesn’t have and invitation to Spring Training. If
there is a pitcher injury, he can fill in that role along with Osiros
Matos, Santiago Casilla, and maybe Horacio Ramriez.

Re-accquisiton: Bengie Molina

Hello Giants fans,

Good news for all Giants fan. The Giants don’t need to go shopping for a catcher and can save money. The Giants have re-signed Bengie Molina to a 1 year contract. Molina who hit 20 home runs in 2009 provides a lot of depth. Bengie is a Giants popular fan. Everybody likes him. He is a good person to have on the team. The Giants have been lately interested in a lot of other free agents and signing free agents. Molina brings us a good catcher, hitter, and mentor. Now with Molina’s boost, he can help the Giants by bringing them back to the playoffs. Lets go SF Giants fans and see what Molina can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NRI’s

Hello SF Giants fans,

As you may know, this period is the free agent period. It is the time where any team can sign people for depth or for any other reason. It is also a time for non-stars to prove their chance. These people who are signed and not on the active roster are called non-roster invitees, or NRI’s. The Giants have signed a few people to minor league contracts and some reporting to Spring Training. We will look at:

Tony Pena Jr.: Once a promising future star for Kansas City, Pena only hit a total of .228  during his whole four year career. The once fielding shortstop turned into a pitcher some time during the season. The son of Tony Pena Sr., now a first base coach for the New York Yankees doesn’t have any fuel left in the tank. This is his chance to shine.

Possibility of making club: No.

Santiago Casilla: The once prized prospect in the minors for Oaklnad now injury plagued pitcher hasn’t done much for the A’s. He once had an ERA below 2.00 and respectable numbers but injuries caused him to stay out longer and pitch worse. He had gone through one major surgery. Signing with the Giants makes it a lot tougher for Casilla. The Giants are a playoff contending team and Casilla isn’t that good enough to pitch for a well club. Jeremy Affeldt, Brian Wilson and a buch of other relievers block Casilla’s pathway.

Possibility of making club: No. He does have a chance, however, to play for the Giants for a short while if a pitcher goes down.

Osiros Matos: Not much to say about this person. He is about average overall. He’s been a little wild in pitching and giving up runs. Not much there.

Possibility of making club: No. Like Casilla, if there is a injury, then he may be called up. He was a big callup the last couple of times the Giants needed him.

Steve Holm: Not much surprising about him. He hit his first and only career home run on Valentines Day. Holm is a pretty much solid catcher but a good hitter. He doesn’t provide a lot of depth for the Giants. They probably will never need him because the Giants number one seed catcher is Molina. Number two is probably Eli Whiteside. If there is a third, it will probably be Buster Posey.

Possibility of making club: No. Path blocked by Molina, Whiteside, and Posey. He should look for another place to sign with.

Acquisiton: Aubrey Huff

Hello Giants fans,

Today we will talk about about the acquisition of Aubrey Huff.  Aubrey Huff is a first baseman/DH who can also play the hot corner (third base). Aubrey Huff’s numbers are sometimes magical and sometimes just average. Aubrey Huff, when he’s healthy, can hit 30+ home runs, 100+ RBI’s, and can it above .300. He can be an all-star. But only when he’s healthy. Aubrey Huff was brought here for two reasons. One is the Giants need a better first baseman than Travis Ishikawa, because he is still young and needs more experience. Secondly, the Giants could not sign Adam LaRoche. Adam LaRoche turned down a two year contract worth $17.5 million. Instead, he agreed to sign with the Diamondbacks for a year and less money. Huff brings the Giants a contender, someone with believes and values. Hopefully, this acquisition will give the Giants a playoff spot or at least a wild card. For now, we will have to wait to see what DeRosa and Huff can bring….

Acquisiton: Mark DeRosa

Hello Giants fans,

Happy New Year! As you now notice that this is the free agency period. There are a lot of FA’s out there. I wanted to talk about the acquisitions of the Giants. First of all, we’ve signed Mark DeRosa. Mark DeRosa brings a lot of versatility to the Giants. He can play anywhere in the infield and can play both left/right field slots. If you look at DeRosa’s numbers, he’s about average. But, if you’ve noticed, DeRosa has improved. Since 2006, he has hit 20+ home runs. Now , that may not be enough for the Giants because they need a 30+ home run hitter. If you look at DeRosa, he posted career high numbers in home runs but also in strikeouts. If he keeps improving at hitting, that would make DeRosa a promising player. Plus, the Giants have gotten Hensley (BamBam) Muelens as hitting coach. It’s a good thing because he’s helped players such as Eugenio Velez and John Bowker. For now, the Giants will have to depend a lot on DeRosa.
